Whimsical, fantastical, fabulously creative, and a whole lot of fun, when it comes to themed hotel rooms some places really know how to make us look twice, and imagine ourselves laughing with delight as we step through those doors.
Here are some of the most incredible themed hotel rooms around the world including some that are just out of this world.
The Wizard’s Emeralds, Roxbury Motel, USA
The themed hotel room game is strong at the Roxbury Motel in New York where every room and suite has its own incredible look. Our favorites include the Cinderella’s Gown where you’ll find a pumpkin carriage bathroom and ball gown bed canopy, and the Maryann’s Coconut Cream Pie room where the ceiling looks like dollops of whipped cream surrounded by a pie crust.
Then there’s The Wizard’s Emeralds where Wicked and Wizard of Oz fans can skip along the yellow brick road (well, until it turns into the mural to the Emerald City) and sleep on a king-sized Emerald bed next to ruby red slippers. Oh my!
The Harmon Room, 21c Museum Hotel, USA
In Lexington, Kentucky, you can stay in a room that looks like it’s come straight from the Queen’s Gambit, complete with larger-than-life chess pieces on the ceiling.

As fans of the Netflix series know, Lexington is the home base of the chess prodigy Beth Harmon, and in the 21c Museum Hotel, the Harmon Room includes custom chess-inspired wallpaper, mid-century antiques, and a locally made chess set. And when you’re ready to make your move out into the day it also includes an itinerary of places to visit in the city inspired by the show.
Hello Kitty Room, Keio Plaza Hotel, Japan
You’re never too old for Hello Kitty and while this one may be a hit with small children, it’s also a firm favorite with big kids too. The Hello Kitty-themed room at the Keio Plaza Hotel is a feast in the eyes and includes some great souvenirs including a Hello Kitty doll, slippers, and skincare set that you can take home.
The Sanrio character fun continues with My Melody and Little Twin Stars-themed rooms in the hotel. And these rather special rooms are just a five-minute walk away from Hello Kitty World! Or as it’s really known, Sanrio Puroland.
The Priscilla Suite, The Palace Hotel, Australia
One of the most memorable scenes from Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is when Tick, Bernadette, and Felicia have a night out at the Palace Hotel in Broken Hill. While the murals on the walls remain the same as they were in the 1994 film, there’s now something very special upstairs. A room fit for a drag queen.
The Priscilla Suite has kept some of the features we saw in the film and given the rest a fabulously kitschy makeover with flamingos, fluffy pink pillows, a mirrorball wall, and a sparkly chandelier.
Haunted Castle, Adventure Suites, USA
You might not have the best night’s sleep here, but if you like getting spooked you can have a whole lot of fun. The Haunted Castle in the Adventure Suites, New Hampshire is the first simulated haunted hotel suite in the USA.

Your kids will go gaga over the Racing Car Room in Hong Kong’s Gold Coast Hotel where there’s a little racing car bed for them and a king-sized gas station-inspired bed for you. Between the race tire cushions, headlights as bedside table lamps, cars on the ceiling, there’s a lot to put a smile on their face.
Have a racing car-themed afternoon tea on the balcony and take advantage of the Treasure Hunter game card in the room. The Gold Coast Hotel also has an amazing selection of kids’ friendly rooms including the Hong Kong Tram Room, Carnival Room, and Animal Safari, all with uninterrupted views of the sea.
