For those of us who have heard it talked about for oh so many years it may be hard to believe that the Western Sydney Airport is really, truly about to become a reality.

After being a hot topic that was debated for decades the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is due to open in the last half of 2026 and it’s set to be a game changer for flying in and out of Sydney.

Unlike Sydney’s existing airport which works with a curfew to reduce noise pollution, the new Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) will be able to operate 24 hours, seven days a week, and handle up to 10 million passengers a year in its first year of opening with the capacity to grow to more than 80 million by 2060.

Qantas has already announced it will have 15 aircraft based at WSI, and Jetstar, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand have already signed up to join Qantas as the first airlines to use the new Western Sydney Airport.

As well as being great news for people who live in Western Sydney, it’s going to open up new flight options for other Australians and international travellers who are coming our way.

While it will be easier and faster to get to the airport’s Badgerys Creek site when the new M12 motorway opens, and even better when the Sydney Metro connects to the new airport in 2030, I don’t need a crystal ball to know that this is going to be great news for hotels near the Western Sydney Airport.

If you’re coming to Sydney on holiday and want to base yourself in the city it might make more sense for you to spend a bit more time and money heading straight into your city hotel. But as you’re doing your holiday planning, check the taxi or Uber estimate to see how much it would be for that journey, versus a stay at a Western Sydney hotel and getting the train in the next day.

The new Western Sydney airport is also an invitation to get to know Western Sydney, including the vibrant food scene in Sydney’s second CBD, Parramatta.

So where will you find some of the best hotels near Western Sydney International Airport? Read on…
