Magical Melbourne has an abundance of things to see and do. As one of the greatest and most loved cities in the world, the huge amount of attractions shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Finding the time to fit them all in, however, can be quite the challenge, so we’ve rounded them down and created this list of the very best Melbourne attractions you should visit. 

Take a helicopter flight over Victoria

Packed with photo opportunities, the seven-minute ride gives you a bird’s eye view of Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove and the mouth of the Barwon River on Victoria’s most southern coast. You’ll even get to see iconic views of the start of the Great Ocean Road

Visit the Laneways 

As one of the most iconic Melbourne attractions, wandering the laneways to pick up a bite to eat and a cup of the world’s best coffee is a daily occurrence for locals. For tourists, it’s a highlight of visiting the city.

There are many to stroll along, from AC/DC Lane where live music venues and delicious eateries await to Tattersalls Lane in China Town where you get a real taste of Shanghai. Hosier Lane is also worth a visit to witness some of Melbourne’s most famous and colourful street art adorning the walls.  

Shop at the Queen Victoria Market 

Bustling and filled with fresh produce, bars and entertainment, Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market is one of the largest in the southern hemisphere and one of the best things to do in Melbourne.

Head to the deli hall to sample delicious cheeses, listen to buskers and grab a drink as you look around the many stalls. With over 600 traders at the open-air market, it’s the perfect way to spend a morning in the city.

The Wednesday evening summer night market is particularly popular with tourists, with arts and entertainment from 5pm until 10pm.  

Wander the Royal Botanic Gardens 

The city’s botanic gardens are a focal point of the city and perfect for stretching your legs. With beautiful blooms and gorgeous views of the Yarra River, the 38-hectare gardens are one of the most popular attractions in the city.

In the summer months, regular Moonlight cinemas are held in the stunning surroundings, with tours of the night sky hosted in the 19th century Melbourne Observatory.  

Enjoy the Yarra River  

Incredibly picturesque, the Yarra River is the heart of the city. Run, jog or cycle along the banks or enjoy the sights from the water on a peaceful river craft. The river passes some of the city’s most iconic sites including Melbourne Park, the home of the Australian Open and the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens.
